Professor Mark Kelland received his Ph.D. in Physiological Psychology from Wayne State University. He began his career conducting biomedical research related to schizophrenia, Tourette Syndrome, and Parkinson’s Disease. Since arriving at LCC in 1997, his teaching has focused on personality theory, particularly with an emphasis on existential, positive, and multicultural perspectives. Prof. Kelland has authored two Open Educational Resource textbooks, one on personality theory and the other on positive psychology. These books are provided to students for free, and are used by professors across the United States and in Canada.

Prof. Kelland has served as President of the Academic Senate, spent time as faculty support in the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, and he has been LCC’s Accreditation Liaison Officer since 2019. He also works for the Higher Learning Commission as a Peer Review Team Chair, and has conducted numerous reviews of Prison Education Programs. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking and bird photography.
